Calling All 916 Words About Living in the 916!


Five authors or poets will be chosen to be featured in the annual “916 Love” literary zine. Each winner will be invited to read their work at an awesome public event and receive TWO FREE copies of the zine.

Did we mention ALL FUNDS raised by the submission fees and the contest will support 916 Ink’s mission of transforming everyday kids into published authors? Our strategy for creates lifelong readers and writers promoting literacy across the 916 area!

The Important Stuff  YOU Need to Know

Who can enter? Anyone, ages 16 and up.

Submission Fee: $5.00


Your original, creative piece (short story or poem) MUST be exactly 916 words—no more, no less (we have highly trained counters on hand for this kind of thing). And, no, TITLES DO NOT COUNT in the final word count, so now’s the time to get that extra long title out of your system.

Additionally, your piece should have a Sacramento flavor or be inspired by something uniquely Sacramento.

By entering you give 916 Ink permission to publish your work without royalties and you swear that you have not plagiarized or cribbed from anyone—the work you submit is your ORIGINAL work. If you lied and we get sued, then you agree that we are not liable for your cheating ways.
